84codes goes to Kubecon
Ending the conference year in Salt lake CityWith its stunning mountain views and seamless multimodal transportation, Salt Lake City was the perfect backdrop for this year’s KubeCon.
CloudAMQP wraps up the 2024 conference year at Kubecon. The event’s size, format, and location were new experiences for us. The convention brings together users of Cloud Native Computing Foundation open source projects with a focus on Kubernetes. The Salt Palace Convention Center was able to comfortably accommodate all 10k attendees. As a bonus, the best tea selection was the best I have had at a conference! At first I was worried that the conference would feel overwhelming due to the number of attendees. That concern dissipated thanks to the well-planned traffic flow inside the convention center.
Over the course of four days, attendees could observe talks, walk the exhibit hall, collect merch, play some classic video games, Lego giveaways, and visit top attractions in Salt lake City. Even with the extended schedule, there was not enough time in the day to catch every event. The convention was extremely well ran and thought out. It was great to meet existing CloudAMQP customers face to face and some new ones.
84codes is a global company. For the conference we had members of 84codes visit from New Zealand, Sweden, and the US. I made the decision to travel by Amtrak from St Louis all the way to Salt Lake City. Only a 42 hour train ride (quite the commitment). I could have flown to the conference in a fraction of the time. I decided to try something new to me, eco friendly, and more scenic. I met some other Kubecon attendees along the way from the US and other countries. Working at a remote company allows me to work from unconventional places and reduce emissions where possible. As a bonus, I was able see unique views of the Rocky Mountains that you can not get from a car or plane. I am looking forward to my next Amtrak adventure for future work travel.
