Carl Hörberg founded 84codes based on a conviction of employee freedom, and a strong belief in the future of messaging queues and microservices in the cloud. He has now been bestowed the Founder of the Year Award by the Founders Alliance.
The title Founder of the Year draws attention to particularly successful business founders and stimulates the growth of medium-sized and large internationally expanding companies. Carl Hörberg, with his company 84codes, took home the title in his category with the motivation:
“World leader in its niche of technology products that beat the big dragons with a strong corporate culture, life balance, and a passion for creating the best products for optimal efficiency.”
“It feels fantastic to win this award among so many talented co-nominees. It is in itself proof that my idea of the freedom for the employees, and our ability to listen to the customers’ needs, has been a great success factor,” says Carl Hörberg.
84codes help bridge communications between microservices through cloud solutions, allowing developers to focus on their applications rather than having to spend time on server configurations. The company provides a handful of different SaaS (Software as a Service) products.
In 2020, 84codes was ranked as one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies by the Financial Times and has recently been nominated for SaaS Company of the Year by the online magazine Breakit. The company was founded in 2012 and today has 30 employees who all have the freedom to choose a place in the world from which they want to work. Carl Hörberg chose Åre himself for a couple of years now and lives there with his family.
Fact box: The award for Founder of the Year by the Founders Alliance is based, among other things, on past achievements, future potential, and societal benefits. In category 2 Founders of the year, active company founders with at least 20 percent ownership share in a Swedish company with more than SEK 2 million in profit for the year and approximately SEK 50-100 million in sales based on financial results in 2020.
